W2K problem

I've been running W2K for about 9 months now. no problems. Today my enter button got stuck but i didn't realize it at first. When i went to reboot i couldn't load windows 2000 anymore. i got this error "The following file is missing or corrupt \winnt\system32\config\system" i'm not paniced because i have everything backed upi but i want to know if i can restore this. It suggested to use the Windows 2000 cd at boot up and select "r" to repair but i dont have an emergancy repair disk. It's worth mention that i have this computer set up to dual boot. I am able to boot to XP and i can see all of my folders in W2K. I don't want to format just yet. There are some emails that i need access to and i would like to get a current back up of money 2000 before i reboot.

Please, any suggestions? can i repair this file without format. i have W2K on another system, can i create an emergency repair disk from that?

Thanks
