W2K Pro --> Advanced Server. Do I need a Fresh Install?

I think the title says it all. I want to update from Pro to Server. I've heard that they are pretty much the same except for the number of users that can connect. Can I install advanced server on top of professional without hindering performance? Thanks,

It's more than simply just allowing more users to connect. There are more Network management functions, more services that are run and a few other things. Remember that the systems requirements for Win2K AS are greater than Win2K Pro.

I don't think AS will install over the top of Pro as an upgrade. It will allow you to do a parallel installation as a dual boot though.

Andi is correct. The installation of Server will not upgrade your current installation of Windows 2000 Pro. It will allow you to dual boot.

Also, why do you want to "upgrade" to Server or Advanced Server?

Really just for the knowledge. I'm the type of person that learns from first hand experience. Reading a book doesn't help me learn. I've got to be able to look at menus and press buttons. I am running a small server here at home with FTP and soon to be webserver. I know I won't see a lot of traffic, but I'd like to have experience using it.

Advanced Server will also accept a greater number of processors if you have multiple CPUs, and is capable of addressing a greater amount of RAM.
