W2k performance logs and alerts

My computer is freezing up allot lately. When I come back to my computer I can move the mouse around but that is it. I was thinking of using performance logs to try and track what is causing the problem. Any suggestions on configuring a set of parameters to monitor? Or is there another program out there that would be better suited for this. Thanks
 
I think you're trying to solve the problem before defining it.

Give us a better description of the symptoms. When the computer is in that state, what happens if you hit ctrl-alt-del? Can you toggle the numlock light? Ping the machine remotely?
