Title says it all. I don't know what I did. I have four servers running Win2k. I know there's not a PDC technically in W2k, but my main server (Operations Master) is browsing the network Slow as Crap. It's the DNS/Wins Server. No error messages in the Event Log. The other servers browse it fine.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thx

I would check to make sure that you have the latest drivers for your NIC, that you are not running at 100Mbit HD, and that you do not have multiple NIC's connected to the same physical segment.

Also, if you do have multiple NIC's in the machine, what NIC vendor are they?

First things first. 2k Advanced server is a bear on system resources, especially if its configured as a DC. How much Ram does it have installed? What type/speed is the processor? Please provide some rudimentary system stats!
How much use does the DNS service get? Do you have alot of activity on your network? If so, and the DNS zone is not Active Directory Integrated, you may want to consider moving DNS to a member server.

Here's my system Specs:

It's an old Dell PowerEdge:

Raid 5 Array (4 18 Gb Disks)
512 Megs Ram
dual 266

Windows 2000 Server (not advanced)
DNS is Active Directory Integrated on this server (it was the first server I installed Active Directory On)
DNS is also configured to allow pre-windows 2k servers access it.

I don't know what happened, cuz it used to be FINE, and FAST. And all of a sudden it's slow as crap.

All of the network connections come in through a 24 Port Switch, and the card vendor is Intel Pro 100. Only one nic in the machine BTW.

This is a development network (not live or public ) so the traffic is very minimal.

Is the switch a Cisco switch? If it is, then you will need to set the speed and duplex of the card manually.

If not, then I would look at your page file and I would run Task Manager to see what processes are running "hard".
