I just enrolled in a Visual Basic.NET programming course.. Some of the lessons I will be able to do on my PC, and I would like to have your opinons on which OS is a more stable platform. I have both of them and like them both, but I am interested in your opinions. Any suggestion/opinion would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!

I prefer XP for the quicker boot and app load times, and some newer API's like MSMQ 3.0. At core OS level both have similar stability characteristics, with XP as a natural progression of the NT Kernel lineage.

However almost all stability issues are generally not related to core OS - instead it is generally drivers that screw up, more often than not with problematic video drivers. On account of this I would err towards XP because it is more likely to be better tested.
