Okay I got this brand new GATEWAY E series computer at work. Its got pentium 4 1.8 integrated sound and ge force 2mx card.
I got horrified when I saw there was only 1 stick of 128 ddr ram in it.
Now how do they expect me to play my games at work 🙂
so being the resourcefull person I am I obtained a 256 ddr ram from a DELL computer and put my 128 ddr ram in it. Dell works fine but when I boot up my gateway the increase in ram is recognized in the bios but W2k blue screens at initialization, the usual check hardware.
I re-seated the video card and memory and even tried the other slot for the memory still blue screens. I Panicked then thinking I shorted the ram. switched the ram again between the dell and gateway and both boot up fine.
I am thinking there might be a shared component in the ram that might be affected by the ram increase but the only thing integrated is the lan and sound.
any suggestions as I was thinking to buy another stick of 128 ram but want this sorted out first.
I am a Pentium 4 motherboard and chipset NEWBIE as all my built systems are AMD.
thanks
