W2k install hangs at Configuring COM+. Can't get past.

I have started reinstalling w2k over the previous install to recover from my

STOP: 0x0000007B
INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

situation over the last few days.

Now the install hangs during the progress bar that comes after the screen that asks about your network and domain name. It goes blazing along to about 1/3 completed on the progress bar and stops moving at the Status: Configuring COM+ message. The only thing that will get it moving is the reset button. The install automatically restarts and asks me all the same questions including the Product Key again, but hangs in the same place. Since I don't know what is going on behind the screen at this point, I am not sure what to check. Can't find this in the MS Knowledge Base or AT search, unless I was asking the wrong query question.

Hardware is Soyo Dragon Plus MB, Athlon XP 1800+, 512Mb PC2100, GF3Ti200, onboard LAN, sound. Not hooked up to RAID. New Antec case & PS. CD & CDRW. All was working fine until I uninstalled Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum. Using W2k Pro OEM CD.

Any help is appreciated.🙂

I am trying to remember whether I ever went through the installation of the Promise drivers; I don't think I ever did because I did not contemplate using the RAID yet. Just the VIA 4-in-1 drivers were installed, if memory serves. The HD is on IDE1 and the Promise controller only addresses IDE 3 & 4. Would it matter if I might be remembering wrong??😕
