W2K disables keyboard when entering sleep. Cannot return. What program is running for activating sleep?

Win2K was doing fine dropping to SP3 state until I changed the power management options in setup.
Afterwards, upon entering sleep, the video cannot be activated to return. The hard drive is still active but the video is not. Can't tell what else (keyboard maybe) is also rendured inactive.

What program runs when the sleep command is activated?

I have to reboot to reset. System runs fine after reboot except cannot go into sleep and return.
I have reloaded a previous backup of Registry files as well as reinstalled a backup of all the setup W2k files from backup utility.
None of this corrected the problem. (of course I also changed the Power Management settings back to original without any effect).

It seems like you have a problem with drivers. A lot of the drivers bundled with Win2k do not work correctly with power management.

Try updating the drivers to all your PCI cards, mobo, and any other hardware. Also, you may want to check in the device manager to see whether certain devices like the mouse would wake the computer up from sleep.

Basically treat suspend mode like Freddy Krueger. Your computer will sleep, but will it wake up? Mine's awlays awake.

OK,
I listed Bootlog and found that Error 43, "ATMhelpr cannot be found".
This is a file that is listed in the registry under: \Winnt\system32\drivers.

Each time the computer tries to return from sleep, Error 43 occurs.

I cannot yet determine if my modem, scanner, printer devices can accept ATM commands, but i do know that in win98, they did resume from any power setting including sleep. Also my printer worked in duplex mode.

Now I have returned to rebooting and having Win explorer open System32 folder..........is this related? I'm beginning to wonder if a file was corrupted during one of our power company's mini shut off...blinked power 3 times in 2 seconds before shutting off. Then returned power 1 minute later.:(

I agree with Shudder. Sleep mode can work on some but not on others. I need coffee to wake up from a nap. Disable your screen savers and just let the monitor go dark when not in use. If you live in an area with high utility rates, turn it off.
