W2K Dial Up Modem?

Hey I am planing to install Windows 2000 again (Windows Me Sucks) but first I need a supported W2K modem, any Recommendations? I only need until september but it should be cheap and fast with downloads of 5.5k or better

Beeping cablevision cancel cablemodem until summer of next year.

I've found out that modems with a Lucent chipset are usually picked up by W2k upon install. I've had problems with the Rockwell ones.

I finally switch to windows 2000, no crashes yet. I go a Iopen modem, so far its almost perfect. It connects at 115.2kbps🙂 compare to 31kbps:| I got from my USR winmodem.

It's reporting DTE speed not DCE speed. IOW it's reporting the speed b/w your computer and your modem, not b/w your modem and your ISPs equipment.

My Bad
I typed Iopen modem, I meant Aopen

and yes I am sure its connecting at 115.2 kbps 🙂 but "Damaged" might be right. Either way now I downloading @ 5.7K 🙂while USR x2 winmodem managed only .9K; I guess you can't have it both ways this Aopen modem is really noise wheareas my old modem would make one little teat(sp) and thats it but I won't miss that 31 kbps

If it's a 56K modem, that speed is impossible, unless you mean the speed at which the computer talks to the modem, and not the speed at which the modem talks to your ISP. Anyway, right now I'm online at 45.2 kbps, and on a really good day I can get 53.3kbps (btw, that's the maximum speed at which the modem can connect, aparently Uncle Sam doesn't want us to get true 56K speeds :-( ).
