W2K crashes - Netscape, PSP, etc

I've got a homebuilt machine that's been running windows 2000 with no problems for months. Now the other day I installed SP3. Immediately Netscape refused to run, paint shop pro would crash when trying to do certain things, even Word wouldn't run! I reinstalled windows and my software, only to have the same thing happen. I uninstalled SP3, but things are still the same (now with just SP1 installed).

The error log shows : The application, netsc_us.exe, generated an application error The error occurred on 08/06/2002 @ 07:58:49.286 The exception generated was c0000005 at address 6061FDC3 (DrvConvertDevMode)

Any ideas what's wrong? Most software runs fine, but a few that I use constantly (netscape, PSP) won't work. Argh! I'm gonna try installing SP2 and see if that helps. Otherwise, I have no ideas here.

edit: ok, I installed SP2. No change... still the same crashes and the same entries in the error log.
