W2K BIOS update

This might belong in the hardware section, but I didn't see anything similar. I was wondering if someone would help me do a BIOS update for my motherboard. In W98 there is only one set-up disk and now I have four. Do I need all of them and how does that work? I have an AOpen AX6BC Pro Gold. I have downloaded the BIOS update and have it on a floppy. Should I just reboot into DOS? I am not entirely computer illiterate, but close. Thanks.

Boot off the WIN98 startup disk and hold down shift until you get to the DOS prompt. Then update!

I dunno what that does, i'm guessing just go into command prompt w/o all the cd rom driver stuff, I've never heard of it though.

All you have to do it boot of a win9x boot disk. You can do this with w2k because updating the bios doesn't need anypart of the OS, just dos. It's best to use a boot disk that will boot up to just a command prompt and not load all that cd-rom stuff and virtual drives.

When you get a command prompt, put in your disk with your BIOS and FLASHING program and update away. Make sure you make a backup of your current bios.

Holding down SHIFT skips all the drivers, etc. Its a clean boot to the DOS prompt. Try it.

I did it and I think it even worked. However, I have another question. I run W2K Server for my web and e-mail server. Do I do the same thing for that BIOS? I know, I should know these things if I have my own server, but I really just get excellent help from people here on the board. Thanks again.

Yea should work for all. As long as your PC will look for a boot device in your floppy first. Should work flawlessley in all Windows OS's. Linux too.
