W2K and DUN Save Password Bug

I have a new pc with w2k installed and am having trouble with a bug documented by Microsoft. My dial-up networking password is not working correctly. It's not saving. It became so corrupted, that even if I typed the correct password, behind the scenes it was sending something else (and not letting me connect). I checked the registry and my info is listed correctly. I ended up reinstalling w2k and now it lets me connect again but never saves the password. Neither the pc vendor nor MS have been much help, other than "it's an issue". Any suggestions out there?
