Question W10 installation: Upgrade or custom. Plus should I 1909 ver?

I'm installing (Pro 64b) but have my W10 HDD from old system in the new build. Thinking it would overwrite (I have a backup). I think a "fresh install" is best, but it is asking if I want to 'Upgrade' or 'Custom' install. Says Upgrade will copy my files, appls, etc.

It would be nice to just switch the key and anything else w/ recognize the new hardware but I think if this acts like an "Upgrade install" from W7 or W8 that I won't get as clean a set of W10 files written.

Which should I choose? Also, will I get to choose between build 1903 and 1909, released a few days ago? Is 1909 AOK? I believe only optional kbs are to worry about.

Thanks,

Mac

Was 1909 released to the public? That's news.

Nope, it hasn't yet been released. Still showing May 2019 on the MCT page.

Edit: As of the 14th of Nov. 2019, it HAS been released!

Edit: Btw, it still lists "May 2019", but clicking on the "Download tool" leads to a download filename with "1909" in it.

Opps, I thought I read 1909 was released last week.

Well, is 'Upgrade' meaning like upgrade over 7 or 8? This is from a usb, asked language but not which version. If 'upgrade' install would reinstall over my old W10, update the hardware and key, but not be lose any functionality I might be interested.

Thanks VirtualLarry. Guess I'm today's chuckle.

Same here: the Windows 1909 update became available yesterday for my PC, but I did not installed it yet.
I installed the 1909 update today on my pc. Only took about 7 minutes to install and no problems at all.

1909 is a bit of an oddball feature update, since it isn't really. If you have the latest version of 1903 installed, you already have 1909 "installed". The "update" just activates the new features.

It more of what we used to term a service pack then a full feature update.

The "real" feature update will be 20H1 next year.

Well thanks for the posts guys. I did find that 'Upgrade' install apparently causes problems for some, and they have to clean install. Sounds like Upgrade leaves old hardware & drivers, then you must manually delete. I'm thinking Windows still isn't so smart.

So I'll go with the tried and true, do a clean install. Move my appls, re-config all : (

After reading about the problems of Oct I'll wait a bit for 1909.

It took about 2 minutes for the update and reboot (on an SSD drive).

Security update is good for me. I don't want to deal with feature update every half year.
