Yay!!! I just got my 15" PowerBook. It's awesome with 1GB RAM, SuperDrive, 80 GB HDD, 1.5GHz CPU. The backlit keyboard is the best thing ever invented. Dashboard is pretty cool too. I absolutely love it. My only complaint is that the Superdrive is unbelievably loud. But anyone thinking about getting a Mac or a PowerBook, i give you my recommendation

Why are you telling w00t? He normally stays in general hardware, just so you know :p

Congrats man!! I suppose I'll just have to be happy with my zv5000t for a few more years.

In all seriousness why did you get an Apple computer of any kind right now? I'm sure you know x86 Macs are on the horizion so why would you want a system that will on the wrong side of the upgrade path in a year's (or so) time? If you get a new box every year more power to you but I can't see a good reason to get a Mac right now.

More software will run well on PowerPC right now than on x86. In fact, odds are that having a PPC-based PowerBook will give one the largest range of available software to use for the next couple of years. It may be awhile before you can simply assume that a given app will run natively on an x86 Mac.

Yep, the backlit keyboard is a nice touch.

Too bad the overall power of the system is pretty dismal for the price.

It is a beautiful machine and with 1 gig ram and 1.5 cpu, you have all the power you need to do anything you want. I am a little jeolous as I am using a handmedown at work with a 500Mhz processor but it handles MacOSX very well and even noticed a performance bump(Doubt any Window users can say that when they went from 2000 to XP, including me). Take care of it and it will last many years. What are your plans for the laptop?

Congrats man... I've had mine now for 6 months and it was the best decision I could have made. You begin to take things like the backlit keyboard, the two-finger scolling, expose, dashboard for granted and then when you have to use someone else's computer you just feel icky. :)

Hey aren't you the same guys who started a thread about buying the powerbook, and you already had a mac mini , but your dad didn't like the idea since you already had a mac mini, lol sorry that old full of debates thread just flashed to my mind.

It's good to see that you got what you wanted , but let's hope you don't have to get a pc / notebook for some stuff that doesn't work on mac for college.
So what are you going to do with the mac mini ?

great now go dualboot that powerbook with fedora core 4 to save yourself money on office software and other software that is expensive on macs, that's what I would do if I had a mac.

Still would you dual boot with linux or is OS X enough for you, to be honest I never had the chance to see a mac running Linux, and how good linux would run on a powerbook, I heared Linus Torvald said once in chat forum that he is no longer running an X86 architecture system, instead running a dual G5 Mac with Linux on it as his main machine. he also noted that he got the Dual G5 system for free lucky man.

Some suggestions are here.

You can get Opera for free for the next 21 hours here.

Do you search software for any specific purpose?

Edit: x86 Powerbooks probably won't hit the shelves before 2007, so why not buy one now?
