This is gonna be my first real ;) job. It is part time and the manager was very interested in me because of computer experience. So what should I wear to the interview? My friend says I should just wear some jeans and a shirt and my Dad says I should wear some nice dress pants and a nice button up shirt. WHAT SHOULD I DO?!!! :D

Hit yourself in the head with a 2X4 a couple of times because as a member of Anandtech you probably are too smart to work at OM. I swear their Tech Floor Guys are dumber than the sods that work at Comp USA. You'll do fine Bro.

I actually had some good experiences at the Woburn,Compusa . Somebody screwed up and actually hired a couple people who know what they are doing.

Good for you! Your dad gives good advice. It's hard not to do - but try not to be nervous! There's nothing scary about it. Try and come prepared with your own questions as well.

If you can, write some down in a small notebook and take it with you so you don't forget. Things like: job duties, any oppportunities to 'move up', the ability to get coupon codes and post them at f@twallet so we all can benefit, work schedule, pay, etc.

Good luck! - Let us know how it turns out.

Don't forget to post the ad's in hot deals weeks before they come out :) Join the others like myself who court death daily to bring our friends in Hd the deals of their lives :p

That being said, Just be yourself. As for wages, what are you going to do there? If you are going to be a tech, shoot for 10-12 an hour. For sales, expect more like $8-9 for the floor.

Salery depends alot on the part of the country you are in as well.

Use all politically correct terms. ex: "It is a pleasure to meet a fellow heterosexual individual such as yourself. I notice that you are vertically challenged, I have a brother who is vertically challenged as well." Employers love stuff like that :D

I am guessing you are a bit young if you are asking about what to wear, which is fine.

For a job like this, and at your age, I would wear a dark pair of slacks (like dockers or something) with black shoes, and a decent button up (oxford) type shirt. I don't think they would expect a tie for this, but if you do go that route, wear a white shirt and a red tie.

Shake hands firmly and have a question ready for them, because they will say "do you have any questions for me?"

Make it a simple question like, how many hours, can I work extra if I need/want to, how can I move up in this company. Stuff like that.

Good luck.

Bah.. I turned in an application to Office Max almost a month ago and never heard back. :(

I'm gonna try Books a' Million now... 2 seconds away from my house and requires no effort or intelligence whatsoever :D

Officially you have to be 18 to work at Staples....more of a liability issue than anything else. But many store will high younger people, but thats a risk they are willing to take. And to work retail, you must have weekends available. Otherwise most will not hire.

Yea, I put available all of the time. That's why they are probably hiring me.

Here's a hint, dress like the guy who's going to interview you, or like the folks who work there.

Send someone in to stalk them for you.

Or listen to your father;)
