1st impression is that this service is slooowwww! network connection "claims" that I'm connected at 214Kbps...but it feels much slower....

I'm testing this as a possible viable solution for my company's remote access plan.

so far, I think it's too slow...but definately faster than dialup 😀

I'm going to test VPN next to see the speed it connects to my network.

I'm testing verizon's EVDO next week

what phone did you use and how much is the edge enabled plan

it's not a phone, it's the sony ericson(sp?) wireless data card. my corp. rep sent me a separate sim card that needs to be installed to the back of the card. It's a pretty slick pcmcia card as it also supports b/g wifi access to any t-mobile hotspot for free and able to connect to any wifi network. 😀

I don't know if the verizon card does the same thing, but tmobile hotspots are pretty much everywhere, including some airports...so that's a pretty good deal for our corporate remote users for $29.99/month 😀

How are you connecting to it? Tethering?

You can't compare EVDO to EDGE, you can compare it to UMTS/HSPDA.

T-mobile is skipping 3G and jumping all the way to 3.5G or HSPDA at 14.4Mbps :Q

Can't wait for that 😀

Or go to Cingular who already has 3G running. If you're in an area with cingular UMTS converage I head that it's far superior to what you get from EVDO. The reason T-Mobile is skipping 3G is simply because they've always been behind in the wireless data market and it's simply not worth it to roll out something that everyone already has out.
