W XP Pro - Getting Legal

FYI - I had a version of XP Pro on my system and no box or CD. To get legal I bought an "Academic" version of W XP Pro Upgrade for $82.00 (my daughter is a student) from a "major" web site. I installed it as a "Repair" with no problems - followed by SP1 and am now legal. I did not have to reinstall anything and all settings, passwords and other "stuff" carried over.

Ummm, are you saying that you weren't legal before? Or just that you were missing your CD and COA? Careful now, AT doesn't condone any "illegal" activities. 😉 Thems the rules!

I didn't say that I was not legal before (long story that is not relevant). In fact to get legal I have purchased both the Home and Pro version. My intent was to relay that it is fairly easy to use the Repair capability of the install and that it would work even when the installed version was Windows XP Pro. Further, if you qualify, that purchase of the Upgrade is available under "Academic Pricing" which some folks may not know.

This may help some follow them rules.

Yeah Academic Kicks ass. To bad we can get it for hardware.... Other than printers....

I got:
OfficeXP for $200
VIsual Studio for $99

To bad i bought XP upgrade before i came to school. Could ahve saved $100. Oh well.

Just checking. 😉 And thanks for the clarification.
