I was feeling normal. get to the mall, all of sudden feel like am gonna collapse. I havent that way for many years. I thought I needed fluids in my system. I drinked 3 bottles of spring water, start to feel dry in my mouth entire body burning and cranking, little shacking from fever. I got spunky in the car, didnt want her to get stock with me in the hospital all day. Drove her home. Got to the hospital at 6pm. seemed not a lot of people. registry nurse was old and messed up, she called out 3 patients that were already seen. than called my name, than said she didnt call me. finally assistant told her she messed up, she took my pulse, pressure and temperature recorded it on wrong patients chart. than another 10min to find my medical file. finally was put into fast track area were none critical patients go. waited another 40min for clerk to registry, 25min until med student called me, took all the info, said DR will be here soon, medical resident came in( its a teaching ER, that has residents and nurse practionals working). he said its some type of viral infection. than he noticed my heart was racing, pulse 160! did EKG to confirm the pulse. than med student told me to lay there wait for dr, he will be right there. ( that was at 7:40pm) i lay there until 8:30 no doctor, so i cant go pee, feel i wanna pee, fever is going up. I call out any doctors here, nurse practional comes I will page him. She comes back, he is with another patient. its 9:30 no doctor and med student left, i had to get up find administrator. he said wait for your doctor, if i assign new one, it will take even longer. yea right that nurse practional had 0 patients for past hour. Finally she saw that I am not gonna lay there all night, that administrator involved. She took my chart and discharged me with some antibiotics that I dont think is appropriate for this condition. Of course I will follow up with my reg doctor on Monday. But in the time that I wasted there, they could of drawn blood and test would be done. Than they would know for sure what I have. Now I gotta wait for my reg dr monday, than 3days for results

Hmm...sorry about your sickness; I hope you feel better.

SARS is not 'instant' - I remember hearing on the news that it has a 7-10 day incubation period.

Sorry you're not feeling well, but just because SARS is the news topic du jour doesn't mean you have it. I've had weird illnesses like that happen before too - it's a virus. Just sleep and take lots of fluids. One time I got sick clear out of the blue, threw up 3 times, then slept for 28 of the next 36 hours. After that I was pretty much better, just weak.

I am not gonna let it go, I am gonna contact Vice president of the hospital, let her have Director of Er speak to this resident. In the time that I spent laying , blood tests would be ready. now i am stock until mid of the week to get the resuls after seeying my doctor on Monday.

Exactly, they don't do anything for you in the emergency room. You wait like 8 hours, and they spend like 3 minutes on you than tell you to leave. They will bill you like crazy also.

When you raise hell with the hospital, tell them, that @ your age with your heart rate, they should have done the following:

1.) Done orthostatic blood pressures (check your BP lying, sitting & standing)
2.) Probably given you IV fluids to correct your orthostatic hypotension (you were prob dehydrated)
3.) Prescribing antibiotics for a viral infection is wrong, and it leads to the development of drug resistant bacteria.

Drink lots of fluids, take some multivitamins, hope you feel better soon.

Thanks Pliablemoose

I was not able to find e-mail address of president or vice president of the hospital but google did find e-mail address of chief doctor of ER and his assistant who are in charge of ER procedures. I included what you noted, but I doubt they will do anything.

I am drinking plenty of fluid, to wash away all that crap, but they left me unattended and scared about the pulse. I had thought i gotta see cardiologist if pulse not normal by Monday.

In addition to complaining to the hospital, contact your insurance company too. They are VERY eager to fight this kind of thing, because they pay for it.

Also, there's a state agency that deals with this. Contact the Attorney General's office, if that's not the right one, they'll tell you where to go.

While it's still fresh in your memory, write down everything you can. Times, names, what room you were in, who else may have been there, everything you can think of. They need good documentation. The problem is that when you go to the emergency room, by definition you're not at your best, so it's hard to get things accurate. The hospital, of course, depends on this.

Hope you're feeling better !

Wduaqnug- question - what country are you from? How long have you been in the U.S.? If you were born in the U.S. - what high school did you go to?
