W/ME excessive FDD access during boot up

While booting up in W/ME the desktop comes up and the cursor has the hour glass waiting will
the tasks are loading.

What's strange is that something is trying to access the FDD for nearly 30 seconds (without success), and then
the system completes boot up and is 100% operational.

Any ideas as to why the fdd is being hit so hard during boot up.???

Are you running any anti-virus software? If so, which one?

There were none running when I got to the PC. I did have to run the Klez cleaner from Symantec.
The FDD problem started after that.

I'm going to load McAfee 6.0 in the morning and do a complete scan.

The reason I asked is because some of the AV programs do a scan of floppy drive on start up and I thought that might be your problem.
