W-4 tax exemption question

I've been working for a little over a week now. And a new person just started, and my manager was trying to explain the W-4 form to her, and I explained how she can just skip the stuff and write exempt, and that thats what I did. My manager then says that I have to change that because I'm 18 and can't be exempt. I thought it was just based on how much you made in a year that mattered if you can be exempt or not.

I'm not even going to be making more than $1,000 (if that) this summer, because I go to Wake so early and need to quit in early August. So, can I be exempt from taxes?

TIA!

Wow, how can you not make $1000 (actually $800 according to FoBoT) this summer?

well I'm only working 4 weeks. Like I said, I leave early for Wake (they start the 18th and I'm spending a week in Baltimore before I go).

Thanks FoBoT

Oh, I thought 'summer' meant June --> August. I bet your employer loves you. ;)

Set your withhold exemptions to 9.
That should prevent any Fed & State income taxes from beinging withheld.

This is correct
If you try to claim 10 or more it will raise flags....
