Here's my question. I am in charge of my jobs VZW account and we have all recently upgraded all company phones to iphone 4s and a couple of newer BB devices. I also have a couple of spare cell accounts on old BB tours that are ready for upgrades. Browsing through the upgrade options on VZW's website I notice many phones are free with renewing. Like I said I have a few spare numbers we pay for just for random employee traveling and stuff. What I would like to know is if I get one of these free phones with contract renewal can I use it on another VZW account not linked to the business account? I ask because my GFs phone is really old and breaking down and id like to get her a new phone. Her old phone doesn't have a SIM and the free phones I am looking at do. There are no moral implications using my jobs account to get these freebies as I am in charge of the account and my boss said he couldnt care less as long as we have the spare numbers to use. So, if possible, how do I go about doing this?

Yes. Order the new one. When you get it dont activate it. One the line you used, you can enter in a dummy esn. Once that is entered, then you can use the new phone to put on your gf's account. Very easy if you have web access to both accounts.

The line I ordered the new phone is an old BB. Her phone doesnt have a sim at all. Can I just get the new phone, toss the msim that came with it and buy a new sim for her account and activate the new phone with it?

Only LTE phones have a sim. And the sim's are tied to the line. Biggest pain in the butt if youre swapping lines with the same phone. But from what I remember, if you havent activated it yet, the sim is fine.

Is she getting a LTE capable phone?

Just to clarify: I have a line on my jobs business account that I got an upgrade to an lte phone. I want to give to my GF who has an old 3g no sim phone. My boss is cool with giving her phone but it came with a sim and I ordered the upgrade thru vzw. The upgrade is an android phone, her current one is not. She is on a shared plan that has data. I would think she can buy a sim and we can set up the new phone I got from the jobs update and switch.

If the phone was never activated that you do not need to buy a new sim for it. If it was, you do. You still need to put another phone on the line you used for the upgrade to clear the ESN from the system.

I thought id keep original BB and old SIM in the BB.

You can. You might have to re-put the ESN on that line but I do not think you will. Assuming you activate the new phone on another line first.

What I would do is activate the new phone. Then, call Verizon and tell them you need to put the phone that was previously active on the line back. If they ask why, just say it was a buddy upgrade for a user and that you ordered it as an upgrade to that line instead of using the buddy upgrade system. They will put the BB and the BB SIM back as active on the line and this will make sure that all the pending orders are cleared and that the new device is totally clear on Verizon's side.

That will burn the SIM that came with the device but, after 24 hours, it's able to be reactivated. But I would just give the phone to your GF and the two of you head to the Verizon store and just tell them you want to activate this phone on her line. They'll give you a replacement SIM.
