VXWorks to IOS on Cisco 1200AP

Im wondering if there is a way to convert a VXWorks ap to an IOS on a Cisco Aironet 1200 AP without using the Cisco Conversion tool and also without using a login name and password for the AP. My boss wants me to do this conversion but cannot recall the name and password to get into the AP. Any help would be appreciated.

There are still VXWorks APs out there????

Those links should get you started. It's pretty straight forward. Just follow the docs.

Yes, there are! I just unboxed a couple from "Old Stock".

OP, what you're going to have to do is a total factory reset (VxWorks doesn't have a PW recovery other than a total reset).

Then you will need the conversion tool from Cisco. I would recommend using the one that DOES NOT save your current parms (i.e., load the IOS and start from scratch).

Sucks, but that's the way it is.

Straight 1200s are pretty cheap, it might be better for you to buy a spare, update it, then switch it into production ... then update your old one and keep it as a spare.

Keep in mind that you may not be able to use it with WPA (either flavor), depending on the age & rev. number of your radio hardware.

If you are so inclined, you can buy upgrade radios (for 802.11g and 802.11a) which have the co-processor to accommodate WPA versions 1 (TKIP) & 2 (802.11i / AES).

I bought mine at CDW (www.cdw.com). You should be able to get them at any Cisco partner (and, of course, eBay ... but be careful of the hardware Rev numbers)

Good Luck
