so in other words you're saying do NOT get the 940b if pic quality isn't the #1 priority .. but no ghosting is?
i'm coming off of a CHEAP 17" (15.5" viewable) Logisys CRT .. and I REALLY think that ANYTHING is going to be a huge improvement anyways .. so really the only thing i'm concerned with is ghosting.....
I cannot say about 930BF simply because I have never used it. You'd better read this review. The only 19" LCDs I have used are Samsung 940B and BenQ FP91G+. Both panels are on par in quality. But 300 cd/m^2 of Sumsung is much better than 250 cd/m^2 of BenQ for gaming. I tested both with World of Warcraft. No ghosting in either dispaly as compared with my old Samsung 19" CRT. Texts are crisp and pictures look awesome in both displays. But Samsung knows much better how to sell displays (much more options in Control Buttons; nice software that comes with Samsung vs. poor or none software of BenQ). You have to buy a DVI cable like this separetely from Samsung 940B.
In case that you don't like the display or dead pixels, you'd better buy it from a seller with generous return policy such as Buy.com (no restocking fee for whatever reason is and they even pay for return shipping in case of defective).

It will be a huge inprovement over your 17in CRT (like I went from too). There will ALWAYS be ghosting on an LCD. It just varies panel to panel on how much you NOTICE it. If I look REALLY REALLY closely I can see ghosting, but trust me, going from a CRT, you won't notice it in everyday gaming. I thought that I would and I didn't.
I consider the Viewsonic VP930b to be the elite of the 19in. 5:4 monitors. It even has that overdrive thing (which make ghosting less noticable).

waht is ghosting anyways.. i have this 15" moniter that has a response time of 25ms.
Yeah, based on the research that I've done though most people seem to say that the 940B has minimal to no ghosting. I have yet to receive the 940B so I can't comment on it base on first hand experience. I have tried using th VX924, which had no noticeable ghosting when I played CS:S on it.
Sony has this Awesome HDTV-60" completely friggin awesome. Xbox 360 is hooked up to it and all that. no ghosting. nothin bad like that.

anyways, we have a gamers machine computer hooked up to it , hdtv card, and you cant beleive how awesome it is, go for that one.altho i forget the model number.

i am trying to search/find info on the VX922 and its panel, a guy in another thread is saying something about the 8-bit vs. TN panel. I can't find anything on it and am starting to doubt his remarks but my testimony to the VX922, rather 2ms to 8ms response time goes like this. You CAN tell a difference between the speeds of these numbers as i have when i booted my pc up with a 214T Samnsung 8ms and my now only lcd the VX922 2ms (i had both lcd's at the time of my test) As soon as i saw the difference I couldn't justify the price of the 214T compared to the VX922's performance. If you know about the 8-bit vs TN panel difference and find it a factor in purchasing this monitor more power to you. My ignorance to the 8-bit vs TN panel is BLISS!!!

He's right. The VX922/930BF/940B are all 6-bit TN panels. They can display a maximum of 2^(6*3) colors, which equates to 262,144. With 8-bit IPS/VA panels, 2^(8*3) colors can be reached, 16,777,216. That's also as much as your computer can send it. "32-bit" = 24-bit color + 8-bit alpha. The 24-bit color in each of its components is 8-bit. The alpha can always be accomodated. I believe the graphics card does that job.
The way the TN panels get away with it is that they dither. Dithering is just creating one color from multiple ones, so it tricks your eyes. With dithering, 16.2M colors can be reached (still not 16.7M). But even the 16.2M colors aren't perfect. It's impossible to have one pixel next to another and both be out of the 6-bit LCD's range, thus there's a limitation, particularly in gradients. So an 8-bit panel will ALWAYS reproduce a greater range of colors given the same backlight/electronics as the 6-bit one. It so happens that TN panels also have inferior viewing angles.
The VX922 hits in the range of probably 8-10 ms. in reality. The 214T is probably more like 13-15 ms., so both are exaggerated by the manufacturer. A true 2 ms. might be indistinguishable from a true 8 ms., but we can't tell, because no LCDs have hit those speeds (at the maximum) yet.

If you want no ghosting the VX922 and VX924 are your best bet. If your willing to pay the price for a VX922 you should also look into the VP930b which has slower response time but is an overall better panel. But if you absolutely want no ghosting at all go with the VX922.
You won't be disappointed with any of those LCDs. The VX922 is the fastest of the bunch by a miniscule margin. The lowest-priced/decent response 8-bit is the VP930b which is $450 and since your main concern is gaming I can only recommend the TN panel LCDs. The Samsung 940b I still think is the best all-around in the reasonable price range with nearly-as-fast response, so you might give that a consideration as well. I'll say the 940b for now.
