Friends car is getting annoying.
He has a 02 1.8T GTI.
In IL all we need to do to pass emissions to have the readiness code set and no faults in system. He went and failed the first time. I checked it, he had a coolant fault. He had the newer sensor but he had signs of a stuck closed T-stat. replaced the t-stat that was indeed stock closed. Cleared all faults and told him to drive it so the car can set readiness.
After 50 miles he came back i checked, no faults and everything was set minus 2ndary air system and cataltyst. secondary air happens only at start up to aid in car warming up faster so i told him he needs to the car to cool and warm up. So about 5 key cycles. He came back 5 days later and it passed, lastly was the cat. I had him drive at a solid 30-40mph for 10 miles, came back still not set. He just went on random drives and came back overall 100 miles on it and still not set.
WTF gives with this. No faults in the system. The o2 sensors seem to be working but its not passing. For a cat to pass the front and rear sensors should just compare data. But the readiness will not set nor is a fault thrown for it. Been like 12 days driving and about 200 miles now.
