VW Tranny Fluid

Don't have a VW, the granddaughter in Ohio does.
1999 Passat, I am assuming an auto transmission.
SIL, also in Ohio, told her fluid is $40 a pint. I have no other details at this point as far as symptoms. I assume they feel it needs fluid.

What type fluid does a VW take?
Aftermarket sources?

It might not be exactly the same stuff but that's a pretty well accepted substitute

Anyway, I think I got my oem Pentosin fluid from Blauparts. Just did a AT fluid/filter change on my 2001 Passat.

Valvoline Max-Life Trans fluid. Meets Volkswagen TL52162 specs.

Have used it in Nissan, Honda, GM, and other cars/trucks just fine.
