I remember watching the review of the car on Top Gear. Seemed like an excellent all-around automobile with some insane technology. But people are more concerned about the badge on the front than what's under the hood, which, frankly, is retarded. VW should have gone the way of the Japanese automakers and introduced a "luxury" line so that Americans could think of them differently (ie Nissan and Infiniti, Toyota and Lexus, Honda and Acura, etc.).

Been to that factory about a half-dozen times, done the "inside" tour. The R&D that went into that place, including the magnetically powered, self-guided assembly stations, is insane. Not to mention the place is environmentally sustainable.

But all in all, it is a showcase money loser for VW. But one heck of a technical showcase. Sort of like the Veyron.

It was a very underrated car, truthfully. They had Audi's top-of-the-line V12 in them, with a top speed of nearly 180mph! (Of course, they put a limiter on it). It's interior is top-notch too. It not only comes with leather...it comes with NAMED leathers. That's how you know you're fancy :)

It's only problem is it kind of looked like a high-end Jetta.

Most people buy expensive cars because they want to tell other people they have arrived, reached the top. Which mean BMW, Mercedes, Ferrari etc. Not VW, Huyndai, or anything American. Lexus has been successful with the RX and the ES, but I wouldn't consider them high-end luxury cars. It's silly, but that's the way it is.

Yeah, I'm not sure where they could of cut costs anywhere either. :hmm:

Lol! Your sarcasm is so transparent. Reminds me of an assembly line I saw somewhere.....now where could that be....

As for where they could cut costs seriously? Just about everywhere.

Someone might say: but zen ze farfegnuggen vouldn't be so gut ya?

But VWs have always been so unreliable. What's with that? Are VW owners so inept they don't take care of their cars or is V Dub such a shitty company they over engineer their factories while cutting costs on the cars themselves such as outsourcing high pressure fuel pumps and yes I'm looking squarely at you Bavarian Moto Wonks.

How do BMW owners feel about essentially being cheated, robbed by a company that charges them luxury rates for a vehicle and delivers shoddy end products by cutting costs using outsourcing? They should be ashamed of themselves not even passing on the savings to their consumer, essentially insulting the intelligence of their very customers!

But they aren't. Not the least bit ashamed. Maybe they learned from Wall St.

I much prefer they put their efforts into building a better car, not putting on a show.

^ +1

BMW is extremely arrogant.

Success has gone to their heads....ridiculous pricing for outsourced, faulty parts. Arrogant sales people/dealerships thinking they're Gods of this planet.

Good point. Why didn't VW just release it under the Audi badge? It would have sold much better over here.

I remember Clarkson saying the outgoing VDub chief wanted a signature car to highlight his time with the company. Sadly it backfired on him.
