VW Golf Mk6 GTI vs Mk7 Golf

I'm getting ready to retire my 04 Infiniti G35 coupe, and would like something with a bit more practicality but don't want to lose TOO much of the fun....I know that the Mk6 GTI will be more fun than the standard Mk7 Golf, but the Mk7 just looks so much better to me, and I won't be able to afford a new Mk7 GTI when they come out. Can anyone point me to some good reviews, or any first-hand experience from you across-the-ponders who've had access to a Mk7 for some time now?

Are you buying new or used? The mk7 gti's are out, although getting a deal on one can be challenging. I've driven them, they are excellent, and I plan to purchase one later in the year if it things work out. The base mk7 golfs aren't quite on the lots yet. Reviews seem to indicate they are improvements, but probably nothing to get terribly excited about.

I used to own a g35 of that generation. Almost anything will be more practical haha. Too bad the wrx doesn't come in hatch anymore. I'd probably get the regular mk7 as its got the new 1.8t now. Probably an Apr flash away from more fun .

Or check out a fiesta st or something if you aren't 100% set on vw

Don't get me wrong, I love how my G35 drives, but it's just had so many problems pop up despite the fact that I bought it in immaculate condition with only 30k miles and I've had it serviced regularly. I'll be sad when the day comes that I have to say goodbye 🙁

Fiesta st should be on the list. Thing is loaded without even adding a single option. Add to that they have $1500+ in rebates and it's a steal. I own one and have averaged 32mpg for the first 350 miles.

i only had my G35 for a year and decided to get something more practical (i also was a recklessly irresponsible 24 year old at the time and was fairly sure i was gonna die in that car when i had it....).

one other thing you'll like. i would not be surprised if you end up getting double the gas milage in a golf. i swear i was averaging 13-14mpg in the g35.
