Production Ending for VW Bus

Bye Bye, VW Bus: The End of an Era in Brazil

There is no successor to the VW Bus in sight. Volkswagen has no vehicle in its lineup that could even approach the Bus in terms of space and pricing. For this reason, anyone who owns a VW Bus today, says Cardona, should be paying attention, because prices for used models are on the rise.

Seems like the world is getting smaller.

I looked at 23-window Microbus a couple years ago and it was well over $20k then. Love the design but holy cow, the prices!

There's still the T5 Transporter/California sold in Europe. Which is essentially just a cargo van with windows. There are camper models available.

Hard to believe VW has been making the same models for so long. The T2 is certainly an iconic vehicle from a bygone era.

I had a couple of 'em, including a pop-top camper in which my (then) 2-3 dogs, assorted passing g/f's, and other friends and I saw a lot of America. I installed Volvo seats (the best then available), a tach (really not needed), and the requisite low back pressure exhaust, but not an external oil cooler.

Most semi drivers used to let you draft them.

Fun times. <---- Pours out a 40(w) in tribute.

I wonder how many of our 40-50 year old members were conceived in one of these things. :D

20k?

Must've been a rusted body with NOTHING in it

These things go well over 100k......

He and Kaido are not talking about any old VW microbus, but rather about the gorgeous, rare, first gen, 23 window Samba. None of those listed in your link is one.

One went for $200,000 at auction.

I contacted this guy, and spoke at length about them. He said $100,000 is not uncommon for good examples, and has been for years.

He also said that the $200,000 price is not even close to the highest price ever paid. He said he knows this because he personally brokered one that went to a friend of his for DOUBLE that amount.

He did say that these stratospheric prices are for rare, early models in good, all original condition, or ones that have been totally correctly restored.

He did say that the one in his link was a more mundane example and did not go for triple figures.

I remember having a hotwheels of one of those when I was growing up about 45 years ago.
