These aren't bad units, especially for the price. I picked up a pair a month ago and they work well for us.

Hey did any of you get in on that ancient Talkabout 250 deal like 2 years ago? I can't remember what MobShop used to be called but they had an unexplainable sale on yellow Talkabout 250's for $10!!! Only one per customer and I was too honest then to get any more, but I picked up a match for $55, bringing my total to $65 for a pair of talkabouts. I love those things.

That was my first internet deal and it's what turned me into the hopeless deal-searcher that I am now.

I _think_ there isn't a problem if only the main 14 codes are used. One FRS is the same as any other FRS in this regard.
I got 4 of the subject radios. Used a pair so far they are nice! Checking* they take 3-AAA. I'd prefer 4 or even 4AA but they are shirt-pocket small.
Very intuitive and easy to operate. They must remain ON- there is no "standbye". Auto 5-min shut-off can be overridden, I think.

omitted that rebate [check dates maybe through the year] has a limit of ten [10] per household/name/address so needless to worry about separate orders/separate checks

hehe Omen beat me to bumping up this thread, this is what I'm thinking of:

$95.52 Four Vtech walkie talkies
$4.48 What should I buy? Any decent $14.99 DVDs?
-$15 off $100 coupon
-$40 Four Vtech $10 rebates, four per household is the limit, right?
-free shipping
-------------------
45 / 4 = $11.25 each

Questions:
1) Which is a better color I'd like both guys/gals opinions, purple or green?
2) How would these work in a 2 story house loaded with lots of electronic equipment, computers, TV's, microwaves, walls, water, carpet, 2.4GMHz cordless phone, 900MHz cordless phone, two cell phones and so forth? If someone is in the basement could you go a mile away outside and still get a reception decent enough to talk on?
3) I'd probably keep these on standby for a few hours a day, would this quickly drain the battery power assuming it's only on stand by instead of talking?
4) Is there anything else I should know before buying four of these?

Thanks!
Ross

I don't know if this radio is comparable to the VTech but the features seem approximately the same and it certainly isn't as much of an eyesore as the 3 VTech colors. Probably get more time with 4 AAA batteries but lacks the power-saving feature of the VTech.

GPX FRS200 14 Channel Family Radio with 38 privacy codes

Price is $19.88 with no rebates to wait for. $19.88 * 4 = 79.52. Just enough leftover to let you pick up a DVD and slide right over $100 to use the 15off coupon.

Does anyone know when the Amazon Electronics $15 off $100 coupon expires?

I'm also considering the Midland FRS radio that feurio pointed out.

I wish it were easier to find reviews of these online.
