I probably just had bad luck but I ordered this phone twice now and both times the battery refused to hold a charge. Had to return both of them...don't think I would try again even at that price. Wish the 918 Vtech deal would come back, that phone is going strong!

The Only true spread spectrum phone.
Detractor must be confusing holding a charge with something else.

saw this on another hot deals forum... Im sure it was posted before, but its ending soon, so might as well repost it..
------
900MHZ Cordless Phone with DIGITAL ANSWERING MACHINE + Software + Pen = 20 CENTS!
Yet ANOTHER great deal on a phone! This one, is a 900Mhz Cordless, but it has a Digital Answering Machine built in too! The phone is $39.98 but has a $20 MAIL IN rebate. In order to get your total over the $50 minimum to use the coupon, you need to order a piece of software and a pen. Here are the instructions:

1) Load staples by clicking on http://www.bigbigsavings.com/cgi-bin/jump.cgi?staples or http://www.staples.com

2) Search for and add item 439437 to your cart (This is a Vtech 916 Cordless Phone - $39.98)

3) Search for and add item 396587 to your cart (This is MGI PhotoSuite III Software - $9.90)

4) Search for and add item bicmsg11be to your cart (This is Bic Pen - 32 cents)

5) Check out and use coupon code 90524 to take $20 off your total.

Please note, the total you will be charged BY STAPLES is $30.24. The software will have a $10 INSIDE THE BOX which you will need to fill out and send in, and the phone has a $20 rebate, which you can fill out ONLINE. To get to the rebate for the phone, when you're looking at the product page for the phone, you will see a red box that says "Rebate Offer - Get $20 Back." Underneath that, there is a link that says "Click here for rebate information" Click that link, and then select the second phone listed. While it says that the rebate is for Model 914, it is actually for 916 as it lists the correct SKU (Item number) in the rebate information.

"Rebate applies V-Tech Cordless or Digital Spread Phone (sku #439437 and/or #439440) to the purchase of at Staples stores only. Purchase must be made between July 15, 2000 and October 31, 2000."

Here's what happens in the end:

Phone: $39.98
Software: $9.90
Pencil: $0.32
---------------
Subtotal $50.24
Phone Rebate: -$20.00
Software Rebate: -$10.00
Coupon: -$20.00
======================
Final Cost: 20 CENTS!!!

I'm not seing that phone. It won't bring it up in the search. The other one that is the same price and different sku is there though, but there is no answering machine.

Might as well post this one as well. Here is another way to get a cheap phone, only you pay a grand total of $0.05 for it, or even less depending on your sales tax!

Go to Office Max B&M. Look for the Uniden 8900 or 8901 900 Mhz Cordless phone. If they do not have it out, you may have to ask the manager if they have more in the back (that is what I did). The phone rings up as $9.00, as it is on nationwide clearance. ($19.00 minus $10 instant rebate). In my case, it came up to $9.72. But the best part is that there is a rebate good for $10. So, $9.72 up front, minus $10 for the rebate, plus $0.33 for the stamp to send the rebate form in, and you get a quality 900Mhz phone for $0.05. As I said, it depends on your sales tax as to how much this will actually be for you, but it cannot be much higher... And I actually did this one, so I know it works... Good Luck!!!

Is the rebate reliable? I heard Staples had a bad reputation about honoring rebate. I don't want to pay $40 at the end.

You can go to Staples' rebate section of their website.
Type in your name & zip code.
The rebate will show it w/ the status.
They will tell you why they are not honoring your rebates.
