(REVISED) Rebate doesnt apply to the 9151 as CSR mentioned.
Ended up getting the VT1962 local for $59.99
Coupon $-15.00
Rebate $-30.00

Will come out to around $15 plus the taxes...

Add something cheap to get your total $50 or more...

Also, you can get the VTech 1962 for the same price. (#410061)

$59.99
-15.00 coupon
-30.00 rebate
--------------
$14.99 + tax

Not sure which phone is better but the 1962 has caller id built in. Maybe you can edit your title to add this model # as well.

Are either of these phones any good, though? I need to get my parents a cordless and it must have decent sound quality (both on the phone and answering machine) and be fairly reliable.

The 1962 is 900Mhz,
Has digital answering machine-
Caller ID-
1 year warranty

(Use a Visa that doubles the manufacture warranty to 1 year)

I got one of the 900 mhz vtech's for 9.98 at OD and it was kinda crappy. no matter what you did, you had static in the background, regardless of distance, channel, etc...my panasonic, in the same location is MUCH clearer. What do you want for 10 bucks i guess?

It depends on which VTech model you get. They have good and bad ones. It sounds like you got one of their analog 900Mhz phones. There digital 900Mhz and 2.4Ghz phones are mostly pretty good, except for a particular VTech 900Mhz digital spread spectrum model (1421) that had exessive background noise.

And VTech makes the phones for Sony, AT&T, and other brands.

I sweetened the deal.

I ordered last week for 80. They let me use the coupon for 25 off of 75 (This was on saturday.) While that was going through, I called today and had them pricematch with OD, and that's 20 bux less.

80.00
-25.00
------
55.00
-20.00 (PriceMatch)
------
35.00
-30.00 (Rebate from VTech)
------
5.00

And the CSR said that she didn't know why I couldn't submit BOTH rebates, so if that goes through, I'll make about $25.

I just purchased the VT 1962 from OD. Before the final 'submit' page, it said in red letters that the coupon was detected and would be shown on the final confirmation screen. After I submitted the order, there was no reference to this coupon in the final charge to be made.

Wtf is up with the shopping cart on this site? Is this normal?

Thanks

oh yeh, i used the supposed coupon located here
Tell me if the same thing happens to u

DerProfi:

I've had a 1962 for about 6 months, and although the phone sound quality is fine, the answering machine quality is pathetic. Sounds like crap when listening to messages, or when you call and hear the outgoing message. The digital AT&T answering machine I bought 8 years ago sounded much better than this thing. If you're looking for a good sound quality answering machine, run away fast. If you like to play "what are they saying?" though, go for it.

I just got one of these, and I have to agree with what AnTorgIo
said...The answering machine quality seems to be pathetic.

I like to make "produced" answering machine messages...I just tried
to record one of them into the machine and was not able to get
anything that was half intelligable, let alone satisfactory.
I wasn't sure if this was the lame speaker on the base unit,
or a problem with the recorder, but AnTorgIo seems to confirm
my fears.

Another problem: If you lose power, the machine defaults to having
the answering machine ON. This means that if you are using another
answering machine, and are just using this phone for the phone,
and if you lose power, this machine is going to try to take over
as the answerer...

Thanks for the post, I picked one up. I used the entry based c-pon, and was told it was accepted. My order total did not reflect this however. Is this normal?

Yep.... I have one and the answering machine is virtually unusable. You cannot even make out what the people have said on their message(s). This kind of product makes me really P.O. that someone was even able to manufacture and sell it. Honestly don't bother. Not to step on the thread..... just letting you know my experience.

I am just about ready to take a hammer to it.

Thanks all for the info re: the poor answering machine quality. Dang! I wonder if the answering machine on the model 9151 is any better? I really don't need Caller ID anyway and that seems to be the only extra feature the 1962 has.

My OD is selling these for $29.95 because they ran out of rebate forms.

Soooo, that would make them free after the $30 rebate.
