so, in the anandtech review, they say that for the 9800gtx turning the vsync off in the driver control panel resulted in lowered fps. so i have an HD 3870 and in the control panel im guessing vsync is called "wait for vertical refresh", should i leave it to on and then turn it off in game? will this improve performance?
 
our recommendation is to leave the vsync setting at driver default.

whether or not nvidia and amd test every combination of all their settings, they do make sure default settings provide good performance.
