Vsync input lag/vsync stuck on

I just started playing Fallout 3, and while it runs as smooth as butter, I can't disable vsync no matter what I do. The same thing happens with Dawn of War: Soulstorm. I wouldn't mind that since vsync gets rid of tearing, but I seem to always have a little bit of input lag with vsync on. It gets nauseating for me after a little while, especially in first person games.

Is there any way to get rid of this input lag? Or if that's not possible, some way to force off vsync in these games? I've heard that increasing mouse polling rate can help, but I can't see how this would affect me, since my mouse doesn't lag when vsync is off. Also, I've tried every vsync setting in my drivers, as well as turning triple buffering and vsync on/off in d3doverrider. Turning on triple buffering seemed to reduce input lag in TF2, but there's still a bit of it in that game. It did nothing for other games.

You need D3D overrider - it forces tripple buffering in D3D games and rids you of lag when using vsync - always enable vsync in driver not games.

Like I said in my first post, I tried d3doverrider. It helps in TF2 to some extent, but doesn't do anything to help with lag in Fallout 3 or Soulstorm. As for enabling it in the driver and not in the games, I've tried all the settings in my driver. Even "always off" doesn't turn it off in these games. Fallout 3 has a vsync option; disabling it does nothing. Soulstorm has no option in game.

In D3Doverider you need to leave DirectDraw disabled... Also, your monitor could be an issue. What do you mean by ""always off" doesn't turn it off in these games" - that vsync still active no matter what you set in driver or doesn't turn off the lag?

Thanks, but I already had the DirectDraw unchecked. As for "always off" not doing anything, I mean that vsync remains on, and thus the lag is still there.

VSync is forced on in the game, even if you untick the VSync option in the launcher and even if you try to force VSync off in your graphics CP. To disable VSync you need to change the iPresentinterval=1 line in Fallout.ini

Sorry about reviving a 3 week old thread, but I'm surprised that the v-sync toggle is busted in Fallout 3. Before I play any game, I usually customize the video options and turn vsync off every time. The tearing has never really bothered me. I did the same with this, and for 4 weeks, I've been wondering why I occasionally get mouse lag. This past week, I've been starting to get slightly naseous and thought it was an issue with low frame rate, my monitor or something else. I was going to test it with vsync on to see if I'd feel better today; looks like I don't need to do that anymore.

Thanks for the .ini file fix.
