VSync enabled or disabled?

I've always had it enabled.. I get from 58-60 FPS in UT (one of the only games I play). I noticed that if I disable VSync, I get anywhere from 80-140 FPS.. But, I get a bunch of image tearing or something of that sort.. Doesn't look very good, if you ask me. Is this a known thing or should this not be happening to me?

No, this is known, especially if u got fps significanty higher than ur refrsh rate.

I personnally use vsync. the loss of a few fps and the 85fps (depending on refresh of course) ceiling is insignifican to me. but the tearing just annoys me.

Vsync off is just for benchmarking and people to show off with, for better quality, vsync on is better.

You have to decide what you want maximum speed(v-sync off) or best image quality with no tearing(v-sync on) anyway it`s really a personal thing & I prefer it on.

I have it on, like the posts above say it's just for benchmarks if you wanna have it off. The way I figure it is that anything above 40 FPS or so you really can't tell the difference. The reason why you want high FPS in the first place is so when there are huge battles, your FPS wont drop to 15-20 frames. I dont think you will notice a performance difference, like in a situation where there is alot of things going on, i believe both will drop to the same FPS. I'm not sure if i'm clear about this but anyhow.
