? vs. Intel Stock P4 heatsink

Does anyone have any GOOD temperature comparisons between various high-end (Thermalright, Alpha) heatsinks and the stock heatsink included with retail P4 chips. I read in a couple of places that people think the stock one is pretty decent. I'd like to see some hard numbers though!

Unfortunately no real high-end heatsinks were tested in that review. But it is nice to see that the Intel heatsink did stand up and provide adequate cooling. Looks like for any serious cooling (overclocking) I'm going to have to buy something a bit more agressive. I thought maybe a bigger fan might do the trick, but the stock heatsink just doesn't look like it will cut it.

Yes I felt the same way the stock hsf that I got with my 3.06. It was so loud and irritating that I got a SLK900 and put a Panaflo 92mm fan on it. It keeps my chip at 36 idle and 51 full load. Several sites gave it the best of or editors choice awards for what it's worth. It is very heavy though and I would recommend installing it directly on the mobo should you decide to go that route.

I have an 800 on a 2400+, I know how heavy they are and the 900 is supposed to be even heavier. I've looked around but haven't settled on anything yet, maybe an Alpha, Swiftech, or Vantec heatsink.

the retail unit is quite good and has headroom for o/cing.

There's some other thread on the Zalman 7000 HSF. Check it out. One reviewer (I think TheTechZone) said that the Zalman unit kept his 3.06 CPU cooler while running at 3.7GHz than the retail box fan while running default 3.06GHz, plus it's probably quieter.
