VRAM cooling, passive sufficient?

If a graphics card has memory chips on both sides of the PCB and I wanted to watercool the card, naturally I couldn't include the chips on the back.

Would that be a problem with current high performance GDDR5@6Gbps? Would passive heatsinks be enough?
