Why is the SE moniker always used for castrated cards? There's nothing "special" about castration. :D

lol @ this card.

A purely numbers based system would be far better than the mess they create with all these versions of the same model number.

This could be called a GTX 557. ehh, just a thought

At least there is a new article at the bottom of this story.

NVIDIA is expect to respond to HD 7000 with three new Kepler chips - GK110, GK104 and GK106 over eight different SKUs including GTX 690, GTX 660 and GTX 640. Surprisingly, Digitimes reports that NVIDIA is releasing all eight models in April - an unprecedented and unlikely release schedule for the GPU industry. However, we should certainly see the first Kepler GPUs around April, most likely GK104. According to latest rumours, GK104 is expected to be radically different from its predecessors and NVIDIA's biggest architectural change since G80 in 2006.

There's already a GTX 460 1GB v.2 at that price point with 336 stream processors and clocked higher (and its a GF114 part as well). Why bother with one with only 288 SPs?

So...

GTX 560SE ~ HD6850
GTX 560 ~ HD6870
GTX 560ti ~ In between HD6870 and 6950
GTX 560ti 448 ~ HD6950

Congratulations Nvidia for confusing your own market. This doesn't make any sense now.

So they are going to release a new card now, and then replace it in less than 2 months?
I mean, you can assume this is a short life card anyway like the 448, based on a few GPUs that didn't make the cut, but to release it now when new cards are ~2 months away, supposedly, doesn't seem that likely.

If it had been released around the same time as the GTX560 448 it would be more reasonable to think April for replacement cards.

Im actually wondering if its done that way on purpose to confuse consumers.

Since they start with the top of the line (performance wise) 560, and then keep releaseing slower versions of it. People will remember seeing a review or someone talk of a 560 and its performance, not notice the moniker and buy it (expecting perphaps higher performance than they are actually buying).

Its probably some marketing trick to earn more money.

The GTX560 448 is a short-life product designed to clear out failed GTX570/580 GPUs, it's not a long term product.
This product is probably the same.

Yeah, but the GTX 560Ti is a pointless sku no matter how you look at it now. They need to wack that sku and just keep the GTX560 and GTX560TI 448. GTX560 and Ti versions are to close in performance to begin with.

My initial thoughts also. This seems to contradict the April release timeframe.

Surely the whole process of manufacturing, shipping and stocking by retailers will be hugely complicated by few month lifetime before being replaced by newer parts.

Seems pretty obvious Nvidia are just clearing a backlog of soon to be last generation cards while they can still charge top $ for them, nothing more, nothing less.

Bingo. Like the "geforce 4 MX", those cards were atrocious...

This makes no sense. The 560 is already price competitive as it is, in fact it is by far the better buy against the 7700s.

I thought it was a little strange too. You can already buy a 1GB 560 for $160AR, even less if you look for a deal. If the card does come in around $150 it's a pretty big loser for everyone except NV who get to flush out some chips they can't use otherwise. If you can get it for $140 or less it might be a worthwhile buy, especially since you don't have to deal with a rebate.

The probably have extra chips left over that aren't good enough to be a gtx560 or gtx560ti, so they are opting to make something out of the left overs rather than completely discard them.

They have a stockpile of soon to be obsolete 40nm chips. Releasing this card solves this problem.

Edit: It is just like the 6930 AMD released in limited, poorer markets around December.
