a recent-to-leave amd employee Alexander Shternshain's (ASIC designer) linkeden user page shows his work history at amd working on graphics chips going as far back as evergreen (hd 5000) and work on llano and the fabled krishnia apu's as well.
his gpu background also happens to include a strange codename foregin to us. " sea islands" and if this is done more or less chronologically is last on his listing after north & southern islands. this suggests that this in fact the family name for the hd 8000 series.
sea islands more than likely is a direct reference to islands on the USA's atlantic coast.
