so i built a newish computer. the only old parts i have are my 9700pro and my audigy2 zs plat. The vid card is giving me problems.

it was overheating and crashing my games giving me the vpu recovery error thing. so i took it in and the guy said he ran it fine with a huge house fan on it. so i cleaned up all the wires very well, and added a new fan. it doesnt crash as often, but it still does when there's lots of action on the screen... i have 3 tower fans, and the one side of the tower off, but it still crashes sometimes.

is it possible the card is not cooling itself right and i need a new one, or could there be something else thats wrong? or maybe a setting that can be changed somewhere?

my setup:
athlon 64 3000+
asus k8n-3 deluxe
3gb kingston pc2700 (i got this ram free, so please no "why only pc2700?")
ati radeon 9700pro
audigy 2 zs platinum
maxtor 80gb
wd 120gb
antec 430w psu

i was told to try removing 1 stick of ram but that didnt work either.

thanks

Sounds like adding a case fan wasn't enough. Maybe replace the stock video card HS/f with a VGA silencer to help out. Maybe having the side of the case off is messing with your cooling too? Does sound like cooling issues.

Build by ATI cards have a 3 yr warranty, I suggest an RMA instead of voiding your warranty replacing the heatsink.

well i know its not the side of the case being off because it crashes more often when i put it on.

i have no receipt for the card... how would i get ati to do an rma? does it sound like the card could be messed up? could it be anything else?

thanks a lot for the help

Even if you didnt have a receipt, I would still call them and give it a try/
