No. They're usually restricted in speed and capacity, and I believe they serve up ads. They also owe you nothing, so you aren't the master, someone else is.

The sudden interest in vpns around here is curious. They are really no big deal. Just use free open vpn and be done with it. You can also use a virtual machine like janus, a ram disk, dns encryption, tor with javascript disabled, linux on a flash drive all from a public IP with your cell phoned turned off, sunglasses, etc. Dont forget your James Bond license plate for the cameras that are everywhere.

Simcity is far from just the 90s. I still played Simcity 4 to this day.

Don't go with a VPN provider. Chances are those will be more targeted by the US government over time. If it's foreign they'll just extradite the owners like they did with dotcom and any other victims. Go with a VPS or dedicated server instead, and setup your own VPN. There's still the chance of that server being targeted, but the chance is probably lower. Just don't go overboard with it.
