I guess this would be a good place to get a little free education ;)

I always use XP's Remote Desktop to access my copmuter from anywhere. How is this different from a VPN? Would I benefit from setting up a VPN or are they pretty much professional strength solutions?

Any good links and info will be great.

It is two different things.

Remote Desktop uses VPN to be more secure.

What's Virtual Private Networks (VPN)?

These are secured private network connections, built on top of publicly-accessible infrastructure, such as the Internet or the public telephone network. VPNs typically employ some combination of encryption, digital certificates, strong user authentication and access control to provide security to the traffic they carry. They usually provide connectivity to many machines behind a gateway or firewall.

Entry Level VPN solution can be done via Software at a minimal cost.

Serious VPN solution needs Real Server installations, and or Hardware solutions. The cost might mount into the High hundreds and more. .

The following is mainly a collection of Entry Level software issues.
