Question VPN or Remote Desktop

I have a Toshiba Laptop running Windows 10 64 Bit Home .. For ease of use, I would like to access a particular program (TurboTax 2018) from my Windows XP PRO SP3 (Dell Dimension 8200) computer ... I do not know the best way (without cost, preferred) that I can set this up. Do I need a VPN Client on both computers ? ? I think Windows 10 has one built in, but I am not sure about the XP PRO unit ... Thanks

On both machines. One acting as host (server) being controlled. The other acts as client doing the remote control.

Watch some tutorials on youtube. Very easy. No firewall config or VPN required.
