VPN + Internet sharing help needed.

Hi All,

I've got a question, I got a computer from work (for work purposes ofcourse) which has a NIC and a 56K Modem inside it.

I use this computer in order to connect to my ISP and I need a VPN SecuRemote in order to access my work network.

I am using Win98SE as the OS. I would like to share the internet with my home computer as well, I have there WinME/2K/Linux, I tried doing it with the Win98SE ICS but it completly screwed up the connection and I could not access the net at all.
I was thinking of trying to use Wingate or Sygate.. anyone knows if it will work with a VPN SecuRemote? Anyone has any suggestions?

How about aDSL? I might get an aDSL line from work if I'll say I need it, can that help me out here? will I have any problems with sharing the internet while using a VPN?

I'd appriciate your help people, Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks,

OrenM.

I would try to get a DSL line at your house. I would then go out and purchase a unit like the SMC Barracade or even a Linksys Cable/DSL router. This will allow you to share the DSL/Cable line with out having to have another software program installed on your work computer. Also, you will not have to leave 1 computer runnig all of the time just so your other computers can surf the net.

The thing is that currently I use the analogue line (56K V.90) and I am looking for a solution to share my connection while I will still be able to use the VPN SecuRemote.

Anyone?

Regards,

Oren.

With the Cable/DSL router, you will still be able to use your VPN software to VPN onto work. You will just be able to service your other machines without worrying whether or not you are connected to your work through your VPN.

The thing is that if your work does not allow anyone to VPN in out to the Internet (which I do not know of one company that prohibites anyone on a VPN connection), you will not be able to surf the web, and even your other machines. Once you make the ISP connection, you can VPN into your company. But once you do, you will not "surf" the net with your ISP. You actually will go through your works Internet connection. Thus, your other machines will not be able to surf the web at the same time, if you plan to use your work computer as the gateway.
