VPN/Internet disconnects

Hi,
I have a several computers hooked up to my home network, only my work computer is having a problem. It is also the only one connected with a cable, they others are wireless. It has a VPN set up on it, and sporadically it gets disconnected from the VPN and the internet, at which time I have to either repair the connection or restart the computer. Comcast said it would be solved by getting a static IP through them, which I did and which did not help. I also tried setting up a static IP from the computer, which also did not help. I'm not really sure what the problem is, or what I should try next. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
