VPN - anyone use it?

Hi, I travel a lot with my laptop connecting to many different networks. So, I'm concerned with my information being intercepted from users of the same wifi networks such as in my local coffee shop or at the airport. I decided on using VPN for now. I was wondering if anyone else use it. If so, what company or software do you guys use? I have two in mind right now but always want more options to choose from.

Oh, if you aren't using VPN, I would like to know how you are protecting yourself right now.

if i'm using an open WiFi network then I use SSH Tunnels for anything business related.

on windows one can use Putty or Bitvise Tunnelier to utilize SSH Tunnels

http://shellweb.net probably still allows SSH Tunnels , but if not, Mark is a reasonable guy.
