VPN and no AIM - workaround?

Hello - I'm using the Cisco VPN client v 5.05 and I have it set so that it "allows local Lan access" which is great as it allows me to still browse the internet while on the VPN. BUT it disconnects my AIM session! - is there a way to still be connected via VPN and have AIM work?
 
Your default gateway may be changing to a device on the other end of the tunnel so AIM is trying to connect that way and if they have egress filtering on their firewall stopping it, that would be a problem.
