VPN and "Network" column in Windows Explorer

Eug

When I'm on my VPN to work, I notice that in Windows Explorer in Windows 7 I can see a lot of other machines. How do I make sure my machine is hidden?

Right now I have my LAN adapter set to "Home Network" and my VPN connection set to "Public Network". My Windows Firewall is on too (and FWIW I'm running Microsoft Security Essentials).

Is that enough, or is there something else I need to do?

Ask your IT guy, I am sure he will help you if he feels the need to change this setting. If he doesn't care, neither should you.

Is work people seeing your PC really that big of an issue?
Yes. 😉

Actually, not hugely so, but I'll have to keep my computer name benign. 🙂

Heh. Our IT people only support Windows XP. Not Vista, not Mac OS X, not Windows 7.

They don't prevent people on these OSes from VPNing in, but they won't help us at all if we run into trouble.
