VPN and internet connection

Whenever I connect to my office VPN, all of the internet programs on my computer are interrupted and (I think) end up reconnecting through my VPN. Is there any way to configure the VPN connection so that it isn't so intrusive?

EDIT: I guess this should have gone under networking...
 
Depends on the type of VPN your work has setup. If it's not split tunneling all traffic will try to go through your work.

My fav VPN is Junipers SSL VPN, we run a SA2000 and it's a very nice appliance.
 
I guess there isn't anything I can do. Oh well, it's not a big deal anyways. Thanks for the reply TheSlamma.
