VP191b vs. 1905fp vs. 2005fpw

I've been looking at these 3 monitors for replacing my 19" sony g420. This is a good monitor, but I'd like some deskspace back, and I really am starting to like how crisp the images are on LCDs.

My main concern is...ghosting. I am thinking that the VP191b is going to be the best of the 3, but I heard that the 2005fpw is also a good performer.

All three supposedly have great color response, so I'm not worried about that. I believe that they're all 8 bit panels.

Does anyone know how the 2005fpw stacks up against 19" models height wise? I am slightly concerned about gaming on the 2005FPW with games that do not support widescreen. I know it is possible to run them non-scaled with bars on the side, but how would a 1280x1024 image in real image size compare to a 1905fp?

Anyone have any other suggestions? Right now the 1905fp is only 289, with the 2005fpw being 389, and the vp191b being 440ish?

Any help would be appreciated. This would be my first LCD panel!

i think 19" LCDs are a waste to begin with, they offer no added desktop area over a 17"

that said, your question asks if the 2005fpw is shorter than a 19". it is. by almost 2 inches, iirc. so the image is smaller than on the 19". it is a bit smaller than the image of a 19" CRT. but, i think if you could see it fine on the CRT you could see it fine on the 2005.

Widescreen is pretty cool, but when the 2005fpw is so much shorter, the option is not as attractive. I personally would prefer a 2001FP over a 2005.

I'm looking at the VP191b also, and is there anywhere to get it cheap (Newegg has it at 459 =( )

Edit: BTW the VP191b won't be as good with ghosting as the other TN panels. It's 8 ms gray-to-gray but 20ms black to white...... The 6-bit TN panels are 8ms ISO, while the 191b measures around 15ish ms? Some people can tell the Samsung 930B will be faster than the VP191b, but if you want the best image, Viewsonic is the way to go because its an 8bit panel..

if you look here, you can see that it's always under 16ms for a response time. anyway, i was looking at dell. if you use a 35 off 500 or whatever coupon, you can get it for $438 shipped. That's still 60 more than the 2005fpw right now.

tomshardware vp191b review

i'm just worried how a 1280x1024 image will look unscaled on a 2005fpw...i'd imagine it'd be the same actual size as a 17"...or smaller.

All LCD's "ghost" big time from what I can tell..have both 2001FP and 2005FP and it's very annoying in FPS or movie watching so I still use my DiamondPro.. Some arn't as sensitive though.. Out of those three I;d say you should try VP191b. As you see, it's actually close to what they say @ 8ms according to review @ toms never going above 15ms thoughout spectrum umlike those who say 12ms but spend most of thier time above 30ms.

i think 19" LCDs are a waste to begin with, they offer no added desktop area over a 17"

Some people like to sit back form monitor. text is larger on 19 than 17 which I find too small@12x10.

EDit -- and OP you're SOL of you want a decent CRT sony stopped making FD trinitons two years ago, NEC stopped making U-NX diamondtrons Dec04.:(

Not all LCDs ghost "big time". I've had my Hyundai ImageQuest Q17 for almost three years now and have never noticed ghosting on it, nor has anyone else that has used it.

One, "Ghosting" isn't what you are talking about, you mean Motion Blur. My 2005 is plenty tall and does not Blur at all even when playing FPSes. Also I thought the height of the 2005 might be an issue before I got it, and it has not been one bit. Because you are only talking about physical height not pixel height, so it isn't that big of a deal. Definately go with the 2005, VERY nice monitor.

No you don't don't notice it. I do big time when next to my NEC 2070 it's night and day heavy duty ghosting to the point of unusable because I get motion sickness. Luckly I have three 2070's to tie me over until LCD tech can catch up. Notice I said three. it's going to take awile.

I purchased a 2005fp to replace an older crt. After working with a 2001fp, I didn't really pay attention to the heigth since teh 2001gp is giant. I was kinda surprised how small appearing the 2005fp was. The width is nice but the heigth is kinda short.. much shorter than the 2001fp. Other than that, I see no ghosting at all with any of the games I use and have zero dead pixels and a great picture. Can't wait for more games to support the 1600x1200.

the 2005 is just about as tall as a 17" LCD, which makes it a little taller than a 17" CRT. so, 1280x1024 is a bit bigger on the 2005 than on a 17" CRT.

from experience if you're running a game or something the reduction in size won't matter too much.

I have a VP171b - love it. I'm not a heavy gamer but I can't complain when playing HL2, Doom3, or Far Cry.

hows the black level on the 2005fpw? Tomshardware says that the vp191b black level is pretty decent, without backlight bleeding.

Maybe I'll just give the 2005fpw a try...if I don't like it, maybe I'll switch it for the VP191b. Dell has a pretty decent price on that panel as well.

toms had a review awhile back comparing the apple studio and the 2005fpw. they are the same panel, i believe.
