I'm looking to buy a new monitor for gaming/general and I don't see much reason in buying a 19" to get the same resolution at 17" (I'm near-sighted :))

The Viewsonic VP171b looks good, but pricegrabber lists a VP171b2 much cheaper than a VP171b. Is it the same monitor?

Also, it looks like it's 8ms with an 8-bit panel. Can anyone confirm that?

Thanks

I'm not sure, so this wont be much help, but...

I ahve the VP171b, I've had it for nearly 3 years, bought it for $550! Yikes...

But it is a great monitor, perfect for gaming, nice and bright and sylish too. I especially like the lean look of this monitor, almost all screen, no thick edges.

I know Viewsonic uses different panels under the same model. One VP191b was 16ms. and the other was 8ms. So you do have reason for concern. I'm also near-sighted. Personally I'd get the Samsung 740B. I love my Samsung 710T (been using for 10 months for gaming), and the 740B looks like it's even better. I'm not sure what's PVA w/ Overdrive and what's TN+Film. You'll want PVA w/ Overdrive. I'll look that up, I'm interested as well.

They list 8ms on the site (at least the cheapest retailer for me), but no where are the colors listed there.
